1 Daily / 8 Hourly Battery Maintenance
Warning: Battery charging installations must be located in designated areas free of non-essential combustible materials.
Facilities provided for flushing spilled electrolyte?
Eye wash facility available?
Fire protection available?
Charging apparatus protected from damage by trucks?
Adequate ventilation for dispersal of fumes from gassing batteries?
Eye wash fountain provided for handling acid concentrates greater than 50 percent acid?
Conveyor, overhead hoist, or equivalent material handling equipment provided for handling batteries?
IMPORTANT! Electric truck batteries are heavy, awkward to handle, filled with a hazardous chemical solution, give off explosive gases on charge, and are costly. Handle with care.
1 Daily / 8 Hourly Direction Control and Brakes Check
• Check and make sure that the travel area is clear in front of the truck. Push firmly on the brake pedal. Release the parking brake. Move the direction control lever from NEUTRAL to FORWARD travel position.
• Remove your right foot from the brake pedal and put it on the accelerator pedal. Push down until the truck moves slowly forward.
• Remove your foot from the accelerator pedal and push down on the brake pedal to stop the truck. The brakes should apply smoothly and equally. Be sure the travel area is clear behind the truck.
• Put the directional control lever in the REVERSE travel position.
• Push down on the accelerator pedal until the truck moves slowly in the reverse direction. Remove your foot from the accelerator pedal and push down on the brake pedal to stop the truck. The brakes should apply smoothly and equally.;
1 Daily / 8 Hourly Forks Inspection
• Inspect the load forks for cracks, breaks, bending and wear. The fork top surfaces should be level and even with each other. The height difference between both fork tips should be no more than 1.5% of the blade length.
WARNING! If the fork blade heel is worn down by more than 10 percents, the load capacity is reduced and the fork must be replaced.
• Inspect the forks for twists and bends. Put a 2" thick metal block, at least 4" wide by 24" long, on the blade of the fork with the 4" surface against the blade. Put a 24" carpenter's square on the top of the block and against the shank. Check the fork 20" above the blade to make sure it is not bent more than 0.6" (14.5 mm) maximum.
• If the fork blades are obviously bent or damaged, have them inspected by a trained maintenance person before operating the truck.
• Inspect the fork locating pins. Be sure they are not damaged or broken and operate freely and lock correctly. Check the fork stop pins for secure condition.;
1 Daily / 8 Hourly Hydraulic Fluid Check
Warning: This check requires trained personnel with PPE!
Is the truck parked on a level surface with the parking brake applied?
Is the upright in a vertical position and the fork carriage fully lowered?
Is the dipstick clean before checking the oil level?
Hydraulic fluid level
Is the oil level above the LOW mark on the dipstick?
Is the hydraulic fluid free from contamination?
Does the hydraulic fluid need to be replaced?
Sign off on the hydraulic fluid check
1 Daily / 8 Hourly Lift Mechanisms and Controls
Check the function of the lift system and controls
Pull back on the tilt control lever and hold until the upright reaches the full back tilt position
Push forward on the lever to return the upright to the vertical position
Release the lever. It should spring back to the neutral position freely without assistance
CAUTION! Be sure that there is adequate overhead clearance before raising the upright
Pull back on the lift control lever and raise the fork carriage to full height
Watch the upright assembly as it rises. All movements of the upright, fork carriage, and lift chains must be even and smooth, without binding or jerking
Watch for chain wobble or looseness; the chains should have equal tension and move smoothly without noticeable wobble
Release the lever. It should spring back to the center position
