Battery charging installations must be located in areas designated for that purpose. These areas must be kept free of all non-essential combustible materials.

Facilities provided for flushing spilled electrolyte?

Charging apparatus protected from damage by trucks?

Adequate ventilation for dispersal of fumes from gassing batteries?

Eye wash fountain provided when handling acid concentrates greater than 50 percent acid (above 1.400 specific gravity)?

Conveyor, overhead hoist, or equivalent material handling equipment provided for handling batteries?

IMPORTANT! Electric truck batteries are heavy and awkward to handle. They are filled with a very hazardous chemical solution. On charge, they give off hydrogen and oxygen which, in certain concentrations, are explosive. And they are costly. Before you remove, service, or install a truck battery, carefully read the following recommendations and instructions.

Travel area is clear in front of the truck

Direction control lever moved from NEUTRAL to FORWARD travel position

Truck moves slowly forward when accelerator pedal is pushed down

Brakes apply smoothly and equally when stopping the truck from moving forward

Travel area is clear behind the truck

Direction control lever put in the REVERSE travel position

Truck moves slowly in reverse when accelerator pedal is pushed down

Warning: This inspection requires trained personnel with PPE!

Inspect the load forks for cracks, breaks, bending and wear. The fork top surfaces should be level and even with each other. The height difference between both fork tips should be no more than 1.5% of the blade length.

WARNING! If the fork blade heel is worn down by more than 10 percents, the load capacity is reduced and the fork must be replaced.

Inspect the forks for twists and bends. Put a 2\ thick metal block

If the fork blades are obviously bent or damaged, have them inspected by a trained maintenance person before operating the truck.

Inspect the fork locating pins. Be sure they are not damaged or broken and operate freely and lock correctly. Check the fork stop pins for secure condition.

Sign off on the fork inspection

Is the truck parked on a level surface with the parking brake applied?

Is the upright in a vertical position and the fork carriage fully lowered?

Hydraulic sump tank fluid level

IMPORTANT! When checking hydraulic oil, make sure you use a clean wiper and do not let contaminants get on the dipstick or in the sump.

Is the oil level above the LOW mark on the dipstick?

Type of hydraulic fluid added, if any

Condition of the hydraulic fluid (age, color or clarity, contamination)

Did you change (replace) the oil?

Functionality of the lift system and controls

Tilt control lever returns to neutral position freely without assistance

Adequate overhead clearance before raising the upright

Fork carriage raises to full height smoothly

Upright, fork carriage, and lift chains move evenly and smoothly, without binding or jerking

Chains have equal tension and move smoothly without noticeable wobble

Upright lowers smoothly and evenly

Lift control lever springs back to the center position
