Initial 3 Months Level Controller Maintenance
WARNING!
Isolation and Pressure Release
Isolate the controller from the process by shutting off the output and supply lines to the controller.
If the pilot is electric, have you turned off and locked out all electrical power to the controller?
Release the process pressure from the controller body.
Level Controller Preventative Maintenance
Check the condition of the following components
If a leak occurs, have you replaced the O-rings?
Remove and inspect the body of the controller for debris buildup if used in high-paraffin service or interface control with a horizontal displacer.
Level Adjustment
See note on the last page
Adjust the level by turning the adjusting knob
Is the displacer arm centered in the vessel nozzle?
Turn the adjusting knob under the Balance Spring CLOCKWISE to lower the level
Turn the adjusting knob under the Balance Spring COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to raise the level
Adjust the proportional band ('dump span')
Loosen the thumb screw on the Sensitivity Fulcrum
Slide the fulcrum along the Flapper Bar toward the snap ring to decrease the proportional band and increase sensitivity
Slide the fulcrum along the Flapper Bar away from the snap ring to increase the proportional band and decrease sensitivity
Level Controller Body Reassembly
O-ring and Backup Ring Installation
Install new O-rings and Teflon backup rings
Did you use light oil on the O-rings?
Bearing Block and Shaft Installation
Replace the outboard bearing block on the side of the body away from the case mounting bolt holes
Insert the shaft into the body and firmly seat in the outboard bearing
Replace the remaining bearing block on the body and tighten
Reattach the body to the case (refer to 2.3, step 1)

3 Monthly Level Controller Maintenance
Pre-Maintenance Safety Precautions
Isolate the controller from the process by shutting off the output and supply lines to the controller.
If the pilot is electric, have you turned off and locked out all electrical power to the controller?
Release the process pressure from the controller body.
Level Controller Preventative Maintenance
Inspect the following components for wear and tear
If a leak is detected, have the O-rings been replaced?
Remove and inspect the body of the controller for debris buildup if used in high-paraffin service or interface control with a horizontal displacer.
Document the amount of debris buildup to determine the frequency of future inspections.
Level Controller Disassembly
Pre-Disassembly Instructions
Ensure these instructions are not applied to the pilot
Refer to Paragraph 2.4 for pilot removal or replacement
Disassembly Steps
Relax all tension on the balance spring
Remove the balance spring and upper spring retainer
Remove the lock nut from the flapper bar
Slide the flapper bar off the pivot pin
Ensure neither pivot pin is removed from the case
