Ensure the assembly is installed in an accessible location and complies with state and local codes.

Is a strainer installed ahead of the assembly to protect internal components?

Close the downstream shutoff valve.

Open the upstream shutoff slowly to fill the valve.

Open the downstream shutoff slowly to fill the water supply system.

Is the relief valve discharge vented according to code requirements?

NOTICE: No special tools are required to service assembly sizes 2½" to 3".

Detach the activation module, if installed, from the flood sensor then remove the sensor from the relief valve.

Remove the four or six relief valve cover bolts while holding the cover down.

Lift the cover straight off. The stem and diaphragm assembly normally remain with the cover as it is removed. The relief valve spring is free inside the body at this point.

The relief valve seat is located at the bottom of the body bore, and can be removed, if necessary, for cleaning.

Clean the disc without disassembly of the relief valve module.

Determine if the relief valve diaphragm and/or disc should be replaced.

NOTICE: The disc rubber is molded into the disc holder and is supplied as a disc holder assembly.

To reassemble the relief valve, press the seat firmly into place in the body, center the spring on the seat, and insert the cover and relief valve module as a unit straight into the bore.

Remove the relief valve assembly by following the preceding procedure.

Remove the retainer from the body bore.

Remove the check valve modules from the valve by hand or with a screwdriver.

Separate the check seats from the cage using the bayonet type locking arrangement.

Identify the components of the check valve module

Is the disc assembly in good condition?
