Pentair Cartridge Filter CCP420

Turn off the pump and shut off any automatic controls

Disconnect power at the circuit breaker

Open the Manual Air Relief Valve by turning the top 1/4 turn counterclockwise

Ensure pressure gauge reads zero (0) psi

Pull out the locking tabs and unlock the valve stem and cover assembly from the valve body counter-clockwise

Pull the valve stem and cover assembly away from the valve body

Remove all oils and cleaning solutions from the cartridges

Put on protective equipment - rubber gloves, safety glasses and N-95 dust mask

Create a solution of one part muriatic acid to twenty parts water in a large plastic container

Introduce the muriatic acid as close to the water's surface as possible to minimize splash

Gently place the bottom of the cartridges into the acid solution and soak for 10 minutes or until bubbling stops

Turn the cartridges over and soak the top halves for 10 minutes or until bubbling stops

Record the current pressure reading on the gauge

Is the pressure gauge reading zero (0) psi after pressure is relieved?

Does the pressure gauge indicate pressure when the system is operating?

Is the pressure gauge readable and undamaged?

Replace the pressure gauge (P/N 190058) if any of the above conditions are not met

Ensure the new pressure gauge is properly installed and secured

Determine When to Clean the Filter

Enter the current pressure reading from the pressure gauge

Is the pressure reading approximately 10 psi higher than the 'Original Starting Pressure'?

Shut off pump and relieve all pressure from the filtration system

Open the Manual Air Relief Valve

Ensure pressure gauge reads zero (0) psi

Open the drain plug and allow all water to drain from the filter

Loosen the clamp barrel nut using a 7/8-inch wrench

Shut off pump and relieve all pressure from the filtration system

Open the Manual Air Relief Valve by turning the top of the valve 1/4 turn counterclockwise until it snaps into the full open position.

Stand clear of the filter and wait until all pressure is relieved. Pressure gauge must read zero (0) psi.

Open the drain plug at the bottom of the filter and allow all water to drain from the filter.

Using a 7/8-inch wrench, loosen the clamp barrel nut, allowing the spring coils to decompress.

Remove the following components and place them aside

Remove the clamp ring from the filter and place it aside.

Carefully lift the filter lid away from the tank bottom. DO NOT lift the filter lid by the air relief valve.
