Rooftop System Charge Maintenance

Check mark

Re-charge the unit

Check mark

The Rebel unit has many configurable options that can affect the refrigerant charge. Actual unit charge is given on the unit's data plate found on the inside of the control panel

Check mark

The Rebel unit uses electronic expansion valves that maintain peak efficiency. Liquid sub-cooling and suction super heat float and should not be used as an indication that charge needs to be added or removed from the system

Check mark

If a leak is suspected, the full charge should be removed and weighed. Weight should be compared against the unit nameplate data. Unit should be recharged with the amount given on the unit nameplate

Check mark

POE and PVE oil is hygroscopic and does absorb moisture when exposed to atmosphere. Steps should be taken to minimize exposure time to atmosphere during any maintenance where the sealed system is to be opened

Check mark

Rebel 003-015 refrigerant systems use only Polyvinylether (PVE) oil. Rebel 016-028 refrigerant systems use only Polyester (POE) oil

Check mark

NOTICE: Do not use POE oil in DPS 003-015 refrigerant systems and do not use PVE oil in DPS 016-028 refrigerant systems

Check mark

The entire system must be evacuated using a suitable vacuum pump

Check mark

The quality of vacuum is measured using a suitable micron gauge that has been calibrated

2 Weekly Rooftop System Maintenance

Check mark

Prepare for storage control compartment

Check mark

Is the electronic control equipment in the unit stored in a 5% to 95% RH (non-condensing) environment?

Check mark

It may be necessary to put a heat source (light bulb) in the main control panel to prevent the accumulation of atmospheric condensate within the panel. The location and wattage of the heat source is dependent on local environmental conditions

Check mark

Is the heat source in the main control panel functional?

Check mark

Is the heat source adequate for current conditions?

Check mark

Check the control compartment every two weeks to confirm that the heat source is functional and is adequate for current conditions

1 Monthly Coated Coil Cleaning

Check mark

Clean Option E Coated Coils

Check mark

WARNING: Prior to cleaning the unit, turn off and lock out the main power switch to the unit and open all access panels

Check mark

The following cleaning procedures are recommended as part of the routine maintenance activities for Option E Coated Coils. Documented routine cleaning of Option E Coated Coils is required to maintain warranty coverage.

Check mark

1. Remove Surface Loaded Fibers: Surface loaded fibers or dirt should be removed prior to water rinse to prevent further restriction of airflow.

Check mark

If unable to back wash the side of the coil opposite that of the coils entering air side, then surface loaded fibers or dirt should be removed with:

Check mark

NOTE: Use of a water stream, such as a garden hose, against a surface loaded coil will drive the fibers and dirt into the coil. This will make cleaning efforts more difficult. Surface loaded fibers must be completely removed prior to using low velocity clean water rinse.

Check mark

3. Periodic Clean Water Rinse: A monthly clean water rinse is recommended for coils that are applied in coastal or industrial environments to help to remove chlorides, dirt and debris. An elevated water temperature (not to exceed 130°F) will reduce surface tension, increasing the ability to remove chlorides and dirt. Pressure washer PSI must not exceed 900 psig and the nozzle should remain at least 1 foot from the coil to avoid damaging fin edges.

9000 Hours / 6 Monthly Rooftop System Maintenance

Check mark

Check all moving parts for wear every six months

Check mark

The Rebel exhaust fans are direct drive variable speed fan/motor combination, which do not have belts or pulleys to maintain

Check mark

The bearings are permanently sealed and do not require periodic greasing. The Rebel 3-15 ton units have similar supply fans.

Check mark

The Rebel 16-28 tons supply fans have a direct drive motor

Check mark

These larger motors are not permanently sealed and will require greasing every 9000 hours
