Opportunity/ Opportunity Fast Charge battery procedure

Enter the current charge level of the battery

Opportunity charge is generally between 25-30 amperes per 100 ampere hour

Opportunity Fast Charge is generally 45-55 amperes per 100 ampere hour

Is the battery operating between 20% and 80% of its state of charge?

If the charger is rated higher than the connector on the battery, battery modifications will be needed.

The battery recording device allows the manufacturer and the user to diagnose problems and to correct and fine tune the operating system.

Check uniformity of construction and content in each cell

Check if some cells take less charge than others

Check if cells with lower state of charge are up to the same level as others after equalizing charge

Enter the frequency of equalization

Check if unnecessary equalizing charges are avoided

Select the battery operation type

Sign off on the battery maintenance

Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!

Is the battery water level low?

If water level is low, proceed with the following steps. If not, skip to step 7.

Select the type of water used for replacement

Enter the amount of water added to the battery

Did the water reach the proper electrolyte level?

Is there any visible tray corrosion?

If tray corrosion is visible, report to the maintenance team immediately.

Warning: This inspection requires trained personnel with PPE!

Is the battery still in the vehicle?

If the battery is still in the vehicle, turn off the power switch and unplug the battery from the vehicle

Allow the battery to remain on open circuit (do not charge or discharge) for 30 minutes or longer

Fill in the Crown Battery Inspection Report. Be sure to include battery type, serial number, etc.

Read and record the specific gravity for all cells of the battery

Read and record the open circuit voltage for all cells of the battery

Read and record the pilot cell temperature

Record the temperature-corrected specific gravity readings. Use a temperature correction thermometer. Use the pilot cell temperature for the temperature correction of all the cells.

Warning: Battery replacement should be done by trained personnel only!

New battery installed successfully?

Enter the voltage reading of the new battery

Enter the model of the new battery

Sign off on the battery replacement
