Disconnect and lockout power before servicing

Ensure electrical connections are made by a qualified electrician

Replace bearings and grease if the pump has been in a flooded condition

Evaluate the motor by a qualified motor shop before putting it back into service

Clean and inspect mechanical seals, stuff boxes, and packing rings

Replace mechanical seals, stuff boxes, and packing rings if needed

Replace couplings that require lubrication

Record the operating hours of the pump

Has the pump been inspected after the initial short period of operation?

Inspect the following components for wear and tear

Check for unusual noises during operation

Verify that the pump is operating within the specified temperature range

Record any maintenance performed or parts replaced

Ensure pump has been stored in a clean, dry place prior to operation.

Are the bearings operating properly after one hour of pump operation?

Clean out the bearing housing if bearing brackets are removed for maintenance.

Protect bearing housing against dust and contaminants.

Reassemble the pump using new bearings and lip seals.

Use grease fittings to fill bearing cavities.

Ensure packing is slightly loose without causing an air leak

Gradually tighten the gland bolts evenly as the pump runs

Is the gland drawn too tightly causing no leakage?

Can the rotating element be turned by hand?

Measure drippage from the stuffing box (drops per minute)

Is there eccentric run-out of the shaft or sleeve?
