Ensure all safety requirements are met as per Safety Guidelines, Chapter 2.

Record the current hydraulic fluid temperature.

Is the hydraulic fluid temperature regularly exceeding 150 F?

Assess the color of the hydraulic fluid.

Perform the following actions on the reservoir air vent filter

Ensure all safety requirements are met before performing service or maintenance

Verify that all panels and control boxes are properly covered and latched

Ensure none of the compactor's parts can move inadvertently

Switch the compactor to its 'OFF' position and keep the key with you

Disconnect power at the master disconnect and lock it in 'OFF' position

Ensure each individual working on the equipment applies their own lock on the master power disconnect

Remove residual hydraulic pressure before working near moving parts or disconnecting hoses

Ensure all safety requirements are met as per 'Safety Guidelines', Chapter 2.

Understand the normal operating sequence of the compactor.

Perform a 'walk-around' visual inspection inside and outside of the compactor and its site.

Note any obvious problems such as leaks, broken parts, loose hinges or fittings, spilled trash.

Enter the correct code into the keypad and run the compactor for at least one cycle. Did it operate smoothly?

Note any unusual sounds or parts of the cycle that did not function correctly.

Ensure all safety requirements are met before starting maintenance

Switch compactor to 'OFF' position and keep the key with you

Disconnect power at the master disconnect and lock it in 'OFF' position

Ensure each worker applies their own lock on the master power disconnect

Bleed away any residual hydraulic pressure before maintenance

Check for breakage, lubrication, and tightness of fasteners

Inspect fully-extended cylinder rods for nicks or scratches

Have all safety requirements been met?

Cleaning the Compactor and Surroundings

Clean garbage, trash, or other spillage from in and around the compactor.

Clean any trash accumulated on top of the platen.

Leakage Inspection and Cleaning

Is there any leakage under the compaction bin?

Remove hydraulic oil spills or leakage immediately.

Describe the cause of any hydraulic oil spills or leakage.
