Ensure all safety requirements are met before performing service or maintenance
Verify that all panels and control boxes are properly covered and latched
Ensure none of the compactor's parts can move inadvertently
Switch the compactor to its 'OFF' position and keep the key with you
Disconnect power at the master disconnect and lock it in 'OFF' position
Ensure each individual working on the equipment applies their own lock on the master power disconnect
Remove residual hydraulic pressure before working near moving parts or disconnecting hoses

Understand the normal operating sequence of the compactor.
Visual Inspection
Perform a 'walk-around' visual inspection inside and outside of the compactor and its site.
Note any obvious problems such as leaks, broken parts, loose hinges or fittings, spilled trash.
Operational Test
Enter the correct code into the keypad and run the compactor for at least one cycle. Did it operate smoothly?
Note any unusual sounds or parts of the cycle that did not function correctly.
