Piping checklist
Ensure all piping components are correctly installed
Mechanical Seal Maintenance
Replace the seal
Remove the coupling guard
Remove the flush line from the seal cap
Is it an outside seal?
Remove the coupler halves and tape the collar rings together in pairs
Remove the seal cap or seal gland through the space between shafts
Remove the seal seat from the seal cap or gland
Is it an inside seal?
Clean the seal box, seal cap, or gland and shaft
3 Monthly Shaft Storage Maintenance
Long-term storage
Store in a covered and dry location
Store the unit free from heat, dirt, and vibrations
Rotate the shaft by hand several times at least every three months
Treat bearing and machined surfaces so that they are well preserved
Refer to the drive unit and coupling manufacturers for their long-term storage procedures
Contact your local sales and service representative for questions about possible long-term storage treatment services
Pump Startup Check
Preparation for startup
Verify the driver settings before starting the pump
Ensure the warm-up rate does not exceed 2.5°F (1.4°C) per minute
Flush and clear the system to remove dirt or debris
Bring variable-speed drivers to the rated speed quickly
Run a new or rebuilt pump at a speed that provides enough flow to flush and cool the stuffing-box bushing
Warm up the pump if fluid temperatures exceed 200°F (93°C)
Circulate fluid until casing temperature is within 100°F (38°C) of fluid temperature
Ensure variable-speed driver settings are verified before startup

Disassembly precautions
Ensure pump is isolated from the system and pressure is relieved
Disconnect and lock out power to the driver
Use proper lifting methods and wear steel-toed shoes
Ensure all replacement parts are available before disassembly
Drain the pump
Allow all system and pump components to cool
Close the isolation valves on the suction and discharge sides of the pump
Open the drain valve and ensure liquid stops coming out
