Turn off the electrical disconnect switch

Attach hose to outlet opening of drain valve and direct end to drain

Open the drain valve by turning the hand wheel to the left (counterclockwise)

Allow water to flow until it runs clean

If water does not flow from opened drain valve, follow instructions for sediment removal

Close heater drain valve and remove hose

Turn off electrical disconnect switch

Drain the heater following DRAINING instructions

Remove the elements and gaskets from the openings

Brush loose scale from elements

Ensure no one is in front of or around the outlet of the temperature-pressure relief valve discharge line.

Ensure discharged water will not cause bodily injury or property damage.

Operate the pressure relief device to ensure proper operation.

Verify that the pressure relief device is not blocked.

Remove lime deposits from the pressure relief device.

Did the valve reset completely after operation?

Ensure to keep clear of relief valve/drain valve discharge outlet.

Turn off the electrical disconnect switch.

Attach hose to outlet opening of drain valve and direct end to drain.

Open the drain valve by turning the hand wheel to the left (counterclockwise).

If water does not flow, describe the sediment removal process followed.
