Inlet Gas Pressure Check

Safety Precautions

Turn off all electric power to the water heater

Turn the manual gas valve located on the outside of the unit to the off position

Ensure all safety warnings are acknowledged

Initial Setup

Shut off the manual gas valve on the gas supply line

Remove the screw from the pressure port on the gas inlet of the water heater

Connect the manometer to the pressure port and zero the manometer

Inlet Water Filter Cleaning

Preparation

Close the manual gas shutoff valve

Turn off power to the unit and wait a couple of seconds. Turn on again.

Wait 30 seconds, and then turn off power to the unit.

Isolation

Close the inlet water valve

Is the heater part of an Easy-Link or Multi-Unit System?

If yes, close the inlet and outlet water valves to isolate the heater.

Venting System Inspection

Check the venting system for leaks

Inspect the venting system for corrosion

Check the venting system for blockages

Inspect the venting system for any damage

Burner Inspection

Check the burner for dust

Inspect the burner for lint

Water Heater Drain

Preparation

Close the manual gas shutoff valve

Turn off power to the unit and wait a couple of seconds. Turn on again.

Wait 30 seconds, and then turn off power to the unit.

Water Valve Management

Close the inlet water valve. If the heater is part of an Easy-Link or Multi-Unit System, close the inlet and outlet water valves to isolate the heater.

Draining Process

Open all hot water taps in the house.

When the residual water flow has ceased, close all hot water taps.

Pressure Relief Valve Maintenance

Pre-Operation Check

Ensure the discharge area is secure for disposal

Valve Operation

Manually operate the pressure relief valve to check for correct operation

Post-Operation Observation

Did the relief valve discharge during normal operation?

If yes, describe the issue and note that it may be due to thermal expansion in a closed water supply system. Contact a service technician to correct this issue.
