Inspection and Replacement Guidelines

Ensure inspection and replacement of anode rod is performed by a qualified technician.

Inspect the anode rod for corrosion or pitting.

Is the anode rod corroded or pitted?

Is the water artificially softened?

Determine the condition of the anode rod

Does the anode rod need replacement?

Measure the depth of lime buildup in the heater

Record the depth of lime buildup in inches

Water Temperature and Usage Assessment

Enter the current water temperature

Estimate the average daily water usage in gallons

Is the lime buildup greater than 1 inch?

Describe any observed effects of lime buildup on heater efficiency

Ensure all ignition sources are away from the faucet when turning on hot water.

Do not smoke or have open flame or sparks near the heater.

Do not mix UN•LIME with other chemicals.

Avoid contact with magnesium, aluminum, or galvanized metals.

Use rubber or neoprene gloves, especially if you have open sores or cuts.

Turn off fuel and/or power supply to the heater.

Turn off power to any attached electrical devices or equipment.

Shut off gas supply to the heater

Remove outer cover plate from lower side of heater jacket

Remove six hex head screws securing tank cleanout plate

Remove lime, scale, or sediment carefully to avoid damaging the glass lining

Burner Characteristics Verification

Is there any accumulation of lint or foreign material blocking air openings?

Check that burner venturi and ports are free of foreign matter

Clean burners with bristle brush and/or vacuum cleaner

Ensure burner ports or pilot location are not distorted

Reinstall burners in unit ensuring correct installation in support brackets
