Soak the electrode in the 0.1 M HCl or HNO3 solution for half an hour

Stir the acid solution at a moderate rate

Soak the electrode in the 1:10 dilution of household laundry bleach or the detergent solution for 15 minutes

Stir the bleach or detergent solution at a moderate rate

Is a refillable electrode used?

Soak the electrode in ROSS pH electrode storage solution or standard pH electrode storage solution for at least one hour

Inspect the electrode for the following issues

Rinse off any salt buildup with distilled water

Remove any membrane/junction deposits as directed in the General Cleaning section

Flush the reference chamber with fresh ROSS fill solution

Refill the chamber with fresh ROSS fill solution

Is the meter set to automatically recognize the pH buffer at the measured temperature and an ATC probe is used?

Choose a buffer near expected sample pH and ensure it is at the same temperature as the sample.

Prepare the meter according to the meter user guide.

Rinse the electrode first with distilled water and then with the buffer being used for calibration.

Place the electrode into the buffer and set the meter to the pH value of the buffer at the measured temperature when the reading is stable.
