Head Pressure Control Check
Head Pressure Control
Identify the type of head pressure control system available on the condensing unit
Dual Valve System — Operation and Adjustment
Measure the discharge pressure of the ORI valve
Adjust the ORI valve to maintain a discharge pressure of 150 PSIG for medium temperature systems
Adjust the ORI valve to maintain a discharge pressure of 100 PSIG for low temperature systems
Is the adjustment being made during mild or low ambient conditions?
Describe any readjustments made during cooler conditions
Single Valve System
Initial Start-Up Check
Check Out and Start Up
Ensure all electrical and refrigerant connections are tight
Observe compressor oil level before start-up
Remove upper mounting nuts on the compressor feet and install neoprene washers
Check and adjust controls if necessary
Check and adjust room thermostat for normal operation
Read and file wiring diagrams and instruction bulletins
Check fan motors for proper rotation and alignment
Temporarily wire evaporator fan motors for continuous operation
6 Monthly Condensing Unit Maintenance
Preventive Maintenance Guidelines — Air-Cooled Condensing Units — Semi-Annually
Repeat all quarterly inspection items
Clean Condenser Coil and Blades
Use a brush, pressurized water, and foam coil cleaner to clean the condenser coil and blades
Ensure foam cleaner is not acid-based
Rinse until no residue remains
Check Operation of Condenser Fans
Check that each fan rotates freely and quietly
Replace any fan motor that does not rotate smoothly or makes excessive noise
System Evacuation and Refrigerant Charging
Check System Pressure
Ensure safe discharge of dry air or nitrogen holding charge
Inspect and check system pressure before charging with refrigerant
Evacuation and Leak Detection
Ensure all service valves are open after completing piping connections
Pressurize the system to 150 psig with dry nitrogen or dry CO2
Verify system is still pressurized to 150 psig after 12 hours
Vent nitrogen pressure from the system
Pull a vacuum of 1,500 microns
1 Yearly Suction Accumulator Inspection
Preventive Maintenance Guidelines — Air-Cooled Condensing Units — Annually
Inspect suction accumulator (if equipped)
Is the accumulator insulated?
Inspect for leaks and corrosion
Pay close attention to all copper to steel brazed connections
Wire brush all corroded areas and peeling paint
Apply an anticorrosion primer and paint as required
