Use a flashlight to inspect the oil in the motor housing

Is the oil milky white, indicating the presence of water?

Is the oil level just above the motor when the pump is in vertical position?

Place pump on its side and remove pipe plug (39) from motor housing (6) to drain oil into a clean, dry container.

Check oil for contamination using an oil tester with a range to 30 Kilovolts breakdown.

Is the oil clean and uncontaminated?

Refill the motor housing as per section F-1.4.

Inspect for leaks at the following locations before refilling with oil

Perform a pressure test as per section F-1.3 to locate the leak.

Remove hex bolts and lockwashers

Lift motor and seal plate assembly from volute

Clean out volute body if necessary

Clean and examine impeller for pitting or wear

Inspect gasket and replace if cut or damaged

Replace impeller using screwdriver to hold shaft stationary while unscrewing jam nut and impeller

Disassemble volute and impeller

Remove retaining ring, spring, and rotating member from shaft

Examine all seal parts and contact faces for wear

Is there any sign of wear such as uneven wear pattern or scratches?

Remove stationary member if replacing seal

Remove socket head cap screws and lift outer seal plate and square-ring (DS Units Only)

Remove snap ring, retaining ring, spring, and rotating member from shaft (DS Units Only)

Set unit on its side with plug (44) upward

Enter the amount of new oil to refill as per Table 1

Refill with new oil as per Table 1

Apply pipe thread compound to threads of pipe plug (44)

Assemble pipe plug (44) to outer seal plate (29)
