Inspection Criteria
Check for the following conditions
Replacement Process
Ensure the pump is turned off and disconnected from power source
Remove the pump casing to access the impeller
Carefully remove the old impeller
Install the new impeller ensuring it is securely fitted
Reassemble the pump casing
Test the pump to ensure proper operation after replacement
Bearing Assembly and Impeller Removal
WARNING: Pressure might be present in the pump body. You can relieve this pressure by loosening the eight volute capscrews and shifting the bearing assembly slightly in order to allow the pressurized water to escape. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious personal injury or death.
Bearing Assembly Removal
Remove the eight capscrews that hold the bearing assembly or adapter ring to the volute.
Remove the bearing assembly.
Impeller Removal
Insert a long punch between the impeller vanes or grasp the impeller with a strap wrench to prevent the impeller from turning.
Remove the following components
Seal and Coverplate Removal (Cast Iron Bearing Assembly)
Remove all of the seal parts and the coverplate.
Bearing Assembly and Impeller Reinstallation
WARNING: Use a new gasket when reinstalling the bearing assembly to prevent injury or damage.
Bearing Assembly Preparation
Wipe the bearing bores clean and remove any rust or scale deposits with a fine emery cloth.
Insert the new wave spring into the rear bearing bore.
Lubricate the OD of the rear bearing with grease
Shaft Assembly Installation
Insert the shaft assembly into the housing and then install and tighten the retaining screws.
For cast iron bearing assemblies, install the coverplate on the housing.
If used, install the adapter ring and gasket on the new bearing assembly.
Pump Draining
Safety Precautions
Allow all system and pump components to cool before handling to prevent physical injury.
Isolation and Draining
Close the isolation valves on the suction and discharge sides of the pump.
Is the system drained if no valves are installed?
Open the drain valve and wait until liquid stops coming out.
Is liquid still flowing from the drain valve?
Describe the repairs needed for the isolation valves if they are not sealing properly.
