AED Monthly (HS1 A+C, Cabinet, FRK, TK)

This procedure covers the monthly inspection of each AED and its cabinet. It checks the status light, alarm, cabinet key, pads, fast response kit, trauma kit, accessibility, and damage, and records any deficiencies.

    Check Light

    Confirm the green battery light is blinking through the sight glass. If not blinking, troubleshoot with attached operations manual. Create work order for any issues that cannot be solved.

    Confirm that AED cabinet sounds alarm when opened. If no alarm, confirm alarm setting is "on" and check/replace cabinet battery.

    Confirm AED cabinet has AED cabinet key (usually inside the cabinet).

    Adult Pad

    Verify Unit has Adult Pad (installed) & it is not expired. ****If pad expires within the next 3 months, create a work order to purchase new. Please be specific. Include AED asset number as well as machine location and type of pad.

    Child Pad

    Verify Unit has Child Pad (in storage pouch) & it is not expired. ****If pad expires within the next 3 months, create a work order to purchase new. Please be specific. Include AED asset number as well as machine location and type of pad.

    Verify there is an attached Fast Response Kit and that it has the following: 1. Pocket mask 2. Disposable razor 3. Two pairs of gloves 4. Paramedic's scissors 5. Absorbent wipe If any items are missing, create a work order to order missing part. Include part number from the owner's manual and AED asset number + location.

    Accessibility & Damage

    Confirm accessibility and no damage. * Unit should be easily accessible to all persons including by wheelchair. There should be nothing blocking access to the unit/cabinet. The cabinet should be firmly attached to the wall. * The unit itself (inside the cabinet) should be in good condition with no cracks or other type of damage.

    Confirm there is an orange RSD Trauma Kit installed at/near the AED and that seal is intact/not broken. If no trauma kit or seal is broken, create work order to update/replace.

    Create work orders to resolve any deficiencies.

    Initial and date the paper inspection sheet located in the AED cabinet/case.

    If/when changing pads, batteries, or updating/replacing supplies, email Facilities@rsd7.net to confirm installation. Include item, install date, expiration date, pad lot numbers.
