This procedure covers a full service inspection of the angle grinder, including the housing, power cord and strain relief, motor performance, switch function, and carbon brush wear. It also includes checking the grinding disc, guard, flanges, spindle lock, gearbox lubrication, and the HAV's vibration test and DT number sticker, followed by an engineer's sign-off.

General Condition
Visual Inspection
Check the overall condition of the grinder for any signs of physical damage.
Ensure there are no cracks, deformations, or visible wear on the housing or handles.
Cleanliness
Clean the body and ventilation slots to prevent overheating.
Power Supply & Cord
Check for any fraying, cuts, or exposed wires.
Power Cord
Ensure the plug is undamaged and connected securely.
Cable Strain Relief
Inspect the strain relief at the cord entry point for wear or damage.
Motor & Performance
Test-run the machine; listen for any unusual noises such as grinding or screeching.
Motor Functioning
Overheating
Check if the motor heats excessively after a few minutes of operation.
Ventilation
Ensure all ventilation slots are free of debris or obstructions.
Switch & Controls
Ensure the switch works correctly without sticking or jamming.
On/Off Switch
Verify that the machine powers off immediately when the switch is released.
Carbon Brushes
Brush Inspection
Inspect the carbon brushes for wear and tear; replace if worn down to less than 5mm.
Ensure that both brushes are wearing evenly.
Grinding/Guard & Accessories
Check for any cracks, warping, or excessive wear. Replace if damaged.
Grinding Disc
Ensure the disc is securely mounted without any wobbling or looseness.
Disc Guard
Inspect for any signs of damage or deformation.
Ensure the guard is securely attached and properly adjusted.
Flanges and Nuts
Ensure the clamping flanges and locking nuts are free from wear or damage.
Spindle Lock
Check the spindle lock mechanism to ensure it engages and releases properly.
