BM&M Shaker Hanger Balancing

Note: Equal hanger loading is critical for smooth operation, long machine life, and minimal vibration of the support structure.

Step 1: Loosen the bolt at the lower end of Hanger 1 until the hanger is no longer supporting the machine.

Step 2: Measure the distance “X” between the end of the hanger yoke and the hanger bracket.

Step 3: Tighten the hanger bolt that was loosened back to 250 ft-lbs.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 for Hanger 2. The measurements across the diagonals should similar.

Step 5: Repeat steps 1-3 for Hanger 3. The measurements across the diagonals should similar.

Step 6: Repeat steps 1-3 for Hanger 4. The measurements across the diagonals should similar.

Step 7: Subtract the smallest measurement from the largest measurement.

Difference between smallest and largest measurement entered below.

Step 8: If the difference in Step 7 is greater than 0.025” the machine must be shimmed. If not, the machine is balanced

Machine needs to be shimmed.

Step 9. For shimming, take the difference obtained in Step 7 and divide it by two. Place the nearest sized shim (or combination of shims) in the gap of the hanger with the largest measurement

Step 10: Tighten hanger bolts to 250 ft-lb and run the machine for 3-4 minutes. Shut the machine off, allowing it to come to a rest.

Step 11: Repeat Steps 1 to 10 using new measurements. When measuring the shimmed hanger, leave the shim in the gap and record the distance between the end of the hanger yoke and the top of the shim.

If the gap above the shim has become larger than the previously un-shimmed gap, remove shim and repeat all steps. If the machine is still not balanced, contact BM&M for assistance

After the machine is balanced, the Bottom Yoke bolts on all hangers must be torqued to 480 ft-lbs, lubricated.
