Daily Extruder Inspection
This procedure ensures that the extruder undergoes a thorough daily evaluation covering barrel and screw condition, temperature settings, drive system performance, material feed mechanisms, and safety devices, enabling early detection of wear or operational irregularities, maintaining consistent extrusion output quality, and supporting safe and uninterrupted production operations throughout each shift.
Warning: This inspection requires trained personnel with PPE!
Verify the oil level in the bearing housing. Oil should be in the middle the sight glass pictured below. Add recommended oil from picture below.
Check Extruder for Oil Leaks around Bearing Housing, Saturn Gear Box and Oil Cooling System.
Enter Oil Cooling Temp from the HMI.
Check Extruder for Product Leaks around the PBV Diverter and Product Inlet. Lubricate PBV Grease fittings.
Listen For any Unusual Audible Noises, (Bearing noise, metal to metal, etc.)
Check Thrust Bearing Auto Lube cannister for Grease. Use H1 rated food grade grease or equivalent. Replace if needed.
