Oil Shunt Trip Test

Step by Step

• Make affected area aware of test to be performed, ideally with permission and far in advanced and planned.

• Put panel into test mode

• Stimulate "fire/alarm" event by flowing water through inspector's test valve

• Watch and verify the module activates for the shunt trip device

• Check that the shunt trip device CLOSES/SHUTS

• Verify shunt trip device stops flow by checking air lines by bleeding one or more downstream of the shunt trip device via hand valve or ball valve or other means. Air flow should stop quickly.

• Alternatively, verify oil flow is stopped by draining oil out into a bucket or reservoir that can handle that amount of discharge via point of use equipment

• Return all valves and devices to normal operating position

• Issue system reset at the fire panel

• Check that all systems are operational and production is good to use them again. Let them know systems are all normal.

• Properly Recycle oil that was contained during the test

• Let facilities manager know of results of test and work order completion
