This procedure outlines the required inspection steps for the shears. The technician performs safety, housekeeping, and mechanical checks to ensure all components—such as guards, cables, switches, and operating controls—are in proper working condition. Completing this inspection helps maintain safe operation, prevent equipment issues, and ensure a hazard-free work area.

Date of Inspection
Prior to beginning inspection, shear must be turned off (make sure to release any stored energy)
Visually inspect all mechanical parts for damage. Pay particular attention to the guage table position cable located under the guage table
Remove any loose tie wire from all table areas and ensure bin is not full of cut offs
Check for any loose bolts or parts
Check for normal operation before shearing
Check that all guards are in place
Clean up walking area around the shear to remove slip and trip hazards
Check that all emergency stops, foot pedal and limit switches are in good working condition
General Housekeeping of workstation
Work area is clear of hazards and all guards are in place
