(M) Antares - Inspect Jib Crane (OLD)
This preventive maintenance task ensures the jib crane remains safe, compliant, and operational through a monthly frequent inspection in accordance with ASME B30.11 §11-2.1.2 and aligned with WAC 296-24. Work includes verification of controls and emergency stop, inspection of hooks, wire rope or load chain, hoist operation, trolley movement, structural components, and safety devices. Routine inspection helps identify wear or deficiencies early, maintaining safe and reliable lifting operations.
Purpose
Identify wear, damage, maladjustment, or functional deficiencies before they create unsafe lifting conditions or equipment failure.
Scope
Applies to functional and condition-based inspection of the jib crane structure, hoist assembly, trolley system, hook and latch assembly, wire rope or load chain, limit devices, external electrical controls, and visible mounting components in accordance with ASME B30.11 §11-2.1.2 (Frequent Inspection – Normal Service). Includes verification of operating controls and emergency stop, hoist brake function, upper limit device operation, condition of hooks and latches, inspection of wire rope or load chain, trolley travel components, structural members, mounting hardware, and capacity markings to ensure safe and compliant operation. This monthly inspection does not include internal disassembly or measurement-based structural evaluation, which is performed under the Annual Periodic Inspection per ASME B30.11 §11-2.1.3. Deficiency Criteria
(Reference: ASME B30.11 §11-2.4 – Maintenance & Removal from Service) If any of the following are observed: • Structural cracks • Damaged hook or missing latch • Wire rope damage beyond visual acceptance • Brake malfunction or load drift • Non-functional limit switch • Loose structural mounting → Remove crane from service immediately → Tag Out of Service → Generate corrective work order (if needed) → Notify Facilities Maintenance Lead and Operations Manager
Are there any visible structural cracks on the jib arm, mast, or mounting components?
Is the hook free of damage and equipped with a functioning safety latch?
Is the wire rope or load chain free of damage beyond acceptable visual limits (e.g., no severe wear, kinks, broken wires, or deformation)?
Is the hoist brake functioning properly with no load drift?
Is the upper limit switch fully functional and stopping upward travel as intended?
Is the crane securely mounted with no loose structural hardware or mounting components?
