A weekly inspection of the generator to verify fuel, oil, coolant, and battery levels alongside overall mechanical condition, ensuring the unit remains in a state of full operational readiness and capable of reliable power delivery when called upon during an outage or emergency.
Weekly Generator Inspection
This procedure ensures that the generator undergoes a thorough weekly inspection covering fuel levels, oil condition, coolant levels, battery charge, transfer switch functionality, and overall mechanical integrity, maintaining reliable standby power readiness, preventing unexpected failures during power outages, and supporting consistent generator performance and compliance with applicable maintenance and safety standards.
1. Verify Generator is in Auto transfer
2. Emergency stop button should be in the OUT position
3. Ensure there are not any visible fluid leaks (engine, floor area)
4. Are batteries and terminals in good condition/free of corrosion, leaks
5. Are belts on pulleys properly, any visual damage to belts (cracks, tears, etc.)
6. Battery charger ON
7. Block heater ON (are hoses warm)
8. Any noticeable alarms present on the control panel
9. Check fuel levels (do not allow fuel below ½ tank before refueling)
Complte steps 1-9 prior to exercising generators for 30 min.

3. Monitor and record (in weekly inspection form) vital run info every 5 minutes during runtime
Once test is complete verify generators are in Auto Transfer
Close out all pagerduty tickets that were activated during the test.
