LEADERMAC SYC300M OUTBOARD BEARING REMOVAL AND INSTALL PROCEDURE

****LOTO PROCEDURES MUST BE FOLLOWED****

• Open the door and remove covers then remove the outboard bearing.

• To remove outboard bearing remove the 2 bolts and bracket from each side and loosen the grease drain port with a 3mm hex key (Picture 1). The brackets have safety switches attached (Picture 2) so do not pull or drop the brackets to avoid damaging the wiring.

• Determine outside diameter of the saws to be used. If the size is different from the factory specifications, then the limit switches in the back of the machine will require adjustment.

• Assemble the saws and spacers onto the sleeve to your requirements

• Use the main control panel (Picture 3) to lift feed rollers to the maximum height (there is a limit switch).

Before the next step ensure that the outboard bearing assembly has been LOOSENED or REMOVED. Moving the arbor up or down without loosening the outboard bearing WILL damage the saw arbor.

• Lower the saw arbor using the up/down buttons located to the right side of the saw spindle

• Make sure spindle is clean and lightly oiled

• Slide saw sleeve onto the spindle. The drive pins on the spindle must fit into the saw sleeve (Picture 4).

• Assemble spacer and nut onto spindle and tighten

• Slide in the plastic bed insert.

OUTBOARD BEARING REMOVAL AND INSTALL PROCEDURE

• Do not put on outboard bearing at this point

• Close safety covers and doors

• Start Saw spindle

• Raise the spindle to cut through the bed plate.

• Ensure that the saw blades do not contact the upper feed rolls

• Raise spindle until it reaches desired height. Approx. 6mm above stock to be sawn. The saw sleeve and spacers should not be touching the plastic bedplate.

• install outboard bearing assembly

• The outboard bearing has a key that aligns with a slot in the spindle (Picture 6)

• Slide outboard bearing assembly onto spindle while aligning the key to the slot

• Ensure bearing is completely on the shaft. It will be against a shoulder on the shaft when it is in the correct position.

• If the bearing does not slide on all the way or, the bearing reaches the shoulder of the shaft before the outboard bearing plate touches the frame, then slide bearing housing in the support plate to align to shaft and frame. Do NOT use the bolts to pull plate tight to the frame. This will cause failure of the bearing.

• Using 3 mm hex key to check the pressure release screw is closed

• Use a high pressure grease gun to pressurize the bearing. 250-300 Bar is the correct pressure

OUTBOARD BEARING REMOVAL AND INSTALL PROCEDURE

• Put the brackets with the safety switches and 2 bolts back in each side of the Outboard bearing assembly and tighten firmly

• The above picture shows the slots on each side of the outboard bearing plate. There are multiple holes the bolts clamping the outboard bearing assembly can be located. If they are in the incorrect location it is possible that the end of the slots can hit the lock bolts and cause damage to the spindle when moving the spindle up or down. If unsure remove the bolts and brackets before moving the spindle (e.g. Removing the saw sleeve to change saws).

• After these bolts have been tightened the safety switches should not allow the spindle to go up or down. These switches may go out of adjustment if the bracket is dropped or hit. It is important these switches are checked during routine maintenance and adjusted if necessary.

• If the top feed rolls need to be raised to accept thicker material the Outboard bearing bolts need to be loose enough so that the safety switches release properly.

• Adjustment of these switches is important to ensure there is no damage done to the saw spindle by allowing height adjustment without first releasing the locking bolts.

LIMIT SWITCH ADJUSTMENTS

• To ensure saws do not make contact with feed rolls but still allow various thicknesses of stock to be sawn there are multiple limit switches in the back of the machine.

• These two switches are attached to the main frame of the machine (Picture 7). The tab that operates these switches is mount on the frame that holds the spindle assembly. Their purpose is to determine the location of the spindle relative to main frame of machine.

• The top switch ensures the saw sleeve does not go to high and collide with the bedplate

• The bottom switch ensures spindle does not travel too far down and damage gearbox or jack screw.

• These two switches do not require adjustment in most cases as saw diameter does not change their relation to the machine

LIMIT SWITCH ADJUSTMENTS

• These two limit switches (Picture 8) determine the minimum and maximum height of the top feed rolls.

• They are located in the back of the machine on the outfeed end beside the beam jack screw

• The top limit switch controls maximum height of the top feed rolls. If using smaller saws this should be adjusted so that the feed rolls are 6mm below the top of the saw blades when they are at their maximum height

• The bottom limit switch stops the top feed rolls from going down too far and hitting the bedplate. This switch would normally not need adjustment.

LIMIT SWITCH ADJUSTMENTS

• These two switches (Picture 9) are redundant. If one fails, the machine will still function properly.

• The tabs for these switches are mounted on a threaded rod. The threaded rod is mounted to the feed beam. When the top feed rolls move up or down these tabs move.

• The switches are attached to the housing that holds the spindle. When the saw blades are moved up and down these switches move at the same time

• The function of these switches is to ensure the feed rolls cannot be lowered down to far and collide with the saw blades. If changing to thicker material the feed rolls will have to be raised first, then the saw spindle can be raised.
