Bucket elevator Preventive Maintenance

This procedure summarizes the bucket elevator preventive maintenance process, including LOTO, inspection of the motor, gearbox, bearings, belt, and structure for wear or misalignment. It ensures safe, efficient operation, proper tracking, and housekeeping before returning equipment to service.

    Notify operations prior to starting work

    Perform LOTO of equipment

    Head Section Inspection

    Inspect motor for bearing noise

    • Pass
    • Flag
    • Fail

    Check coupling from motor to gearbox if applicable. Replace as needed.

    • Pass

    Check drive chain/belts for wear. Replace as needed.

    • Pass

    Check sprockets for wear and ensure sprockets/ hubs are tight on shaft if applicable. Replace as needed.

    Check gearbox for shaft play

    Check gearbox oil level, add if needed.

    Check head shaft bearings for play/wear. Ensure set screws are tight to shaft.

    Check head lagging for wear

    Clear debris as needed, if needs relined, patched, or tiled, proceed with follow up work order.

    Check if the belt is riding square on the head pulley

    Inspection Panel Area or Mid section/ Trunking

    Inspect buckets, bolts, belt, and splice.

    Inspect trunking from top to bottom. Take speacial attention to connection points. Ensure mounting and securment bolts are tight and present. Replace any missing bolts.

    Tail / Boot Section

    Check tail bearings for play. Ensure set screws are tight to shaft.

    Check if the boot is in good condition

    Once inspection is complete, have operations start equipment. Check tracking at tail / boot and adjust if needed.

    Inspect spout/s coming into leg. Do they need removed to line/tile/patch?

    Inspect entire take up assembly inside and out. Remove inspection plates as needed to inspect the inside of take up assembly.

    Check overall condition of boot section. Rotting or holes?

    Inspect guy wires, framing, ladders, or any support structures for damage or loose mounting.
