Monthly Overhead Crane Inspection-Rope Bridge Crane-Double Hook
This procedure covers the monthly inspection of a double-hook rope bridge crane, including checks on controls, brakes, hooks, wire ropes, limit switches, and safety devices. It ensures the crane is safe, functional, and compliant before continued operation.
Check that the crane is not tagged with an out-of-order sign
Control Device - Test run all the motions and ensure they are correct with the controls
Brakes - Ensure all motions do not have excessive drift and the stopping distance is normal
Hook - Check for damage, cracks, nicks, gouges and deformations of the throat opening. Check the wear on the saddle or load bearing point, and twist. Refer to the manufacturers manual for wear limits.
Hook Latch- If hook latch is required, check for proper operation.
Wire Rope - Check for broken wires, broken stands, kinks, and any deformation or damage to the rope structure.
Wire Rope - Measurement
Reeving - Check that the wire rope is properly reeved and that rope parts are not twisted about each other
Limit Switches - Check the upper limit device by ensuring that the device stops the lifting motion before striking any part of the hoist
Oil Leakage - Look for any sign of oil leakage on the crane and on the floor beneath the crane.
Unusual Sounds - Listen for any unusual sounds while inspecting the crane and hoist.
Warning and Safety devices - Ensure that the warning and other devices work and are in place. Also ensure that the labels are not missing and are still legible.
Annual Inspection Tag/Sticker - Ensure that there is an annual inspection tag/sticker for the specified crane and that the tag/sticker is legible.
