A - Annual Mechanical Fixed Inspection

This procedure outlines the steps for conducting an annual mechanical inspection of a fixed grip lift. It includes pre-inspection preparations, detailed inspections of various components such as the drive terminal, return terminal, haul rope, tension system, brake systems, lift shack(s), and line work, as well as grip/clip and carrier inspections. The procedure ensures all components are functioning correctly and safely, following manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.

    Pre-Inspection Preparation

    Ensure all potential hazards are identified and mitigated before starting the inspection.

    Ensure all energy sources are properly locked out and tagged out to prevent accidental startup.

    Verify that all safety guards are in place and functioning correctly.

    Drive Terminal Inspection

    Verify engine operation

    Check that the engine starts and runs smoothly.

    • Pass
    • Flag
    • Fail

    Inspect coupling mechanisms, hoses, belts, fittings & fluids

    Drive Bullwheel Inspection

    Apply lubrication to all necessary components as specified by the manufacturer.

    Check for any signs of wear or damage to the structure.

    Examine the drive shafts and couplers for any signs of wear or damage.

    Inspect the gearbox and take an oil sample for analysis.

    Return Terminal Inspection

    Return Bullwheel Inspection

    Apply lubrication to all necessary components as specified by the manufacturer.

    Haul Rope Inspection

    Check for any visible signs of wear or damage.

    Apply lubrication to the haul rope as required.

    Tension System Inspection

    Inspect hydraulic and counterweight tension system components

    Check for any signs of wear or damage.

    Ensure the carriage moves smoothly and has the correct clearances.

    Check that all limit switches and set points are functioning correctly.

    Brake Systems Inspection

    Inspect brake systems

    Conduct a brake torque test as specified by the manufacturer.

    Lift Shack(s) and Line Work Inspection

    Inspect and lubricate tower equipment and structure

    Check sheaves for liner wear and condition, bearings and alignment

    Check for any signs of wear or damage.

    Ensure the lad safe is in good condition and functioning properly.

    Ensure there are no obstructions or potential hazards along the line.

    Grip/Clip & Carrier Inspections

    Conduct non-destructive testing on at least 20% of grips, hangers, and chairs.

    Conduct non-destructive testing on at least 40% of inserted clips every two years.

    Ensure all grips are relocated on the haul rope each year.

    Conduct slip tests on all grips to ensure they are secure.

    Ensure all inserted clips are relocated on the haul rope every two years.

    Check for any visible signs of wear or damage.

    Apply lubrication to all necessary components as needed.

    Final Checks

    Ensure all safety functions are operational and effective.
