This procedure is to be completed by a designated operator before operating a counterbalance electric forklift. These inspections involve assessing the condition of the equipment before operations begin, allowing operators or technicians to identify and rectify any potential issues that could compromise forklift safety.

Visual Inspection - check the following components for any visual damage
Battery - Water Level
Check for loose, worn, or dirty plug connections, clogged vent caps, adequate electrolyte levels in cells, and secure hold-downs or brackets. If the sensor is green it means that the water level is adequate. If it's flashing red it's low on water. Caution: only water the battery after full charge.
Front Tire (Right)
Check for wear, damage
Tilt Cylinder (Right)
Check for any visible damage or leaks.
Carriage
Forks
Ensure forks are not bent or at different heights, and check for any cracks. Make sure positioning latches are in good working condition, and check that carriage teeth are not broken, chipped, or worn.
Lift chains & Hoses
Ensure chain anchor pins are not worn, loose, or bent and hoses are held securely without being loose, crimped, worn, or rubbing.
Lift Cylinder(s)
Check for any visible damage or leaks.
Mast
Tilt Cylinder (Left)
Check for any visible damage or leaks.
Front Tire (Left)
Check for wear, damage
Overhead Guard
Hydraulic Oil Level
Seat & Seatbelt
Ensure belts and restraints are free of wear or damage.

Check for wear, damage

Check for wear, damage
Capacity Data Plate
Operational Inspection - Make sure the following are functioning correctly
Seat Belt
Ensure the seat belt is functioning by rapidly pulling on it to confirm it is locked.
Horn
Working and loud enough to be heard in working environment
Lights
Headlights and warning lights are operational
Dash control panel
All lights and gauges are operational
Parking Brake
Holds against slight acceleration
Steering
Moves smoothly
Lift/Lowering Control
Operates smoothly (check by raising forks to maximum height then lowering forks completely).
Tilt Control
Moves smoothly, holds the load (check by tilting mast all the way forward and backward).
Side-Shifter
Operates smoothly (check by shifting all the way to right and all the way to the left).
Back-up (reverse) alarm and other warning devices are operational
Forward Drive and Braking
Reverse Drive and Braking
Cylinders and hoses
Not leaking after the above checks and no oil spots on the floor.
Listen for Unusual Noise
