Step Ladder Monthly Inspections

This procedure is a ladder inspection checklist that must be done monthly. It is a tool to help you determine whether a ladder should be used or not. It helps ensure ladders pass safety and quality standards. Before using a ladder, everyone should visibly check its condition. If any defects are found, the ladder must be tagged DO NOT USE.

Step Ladder Monthly Inspections

This procedure is a ladder inspection checklist that must be done monthly. It is a tool to help you determine whether a ladder should be used or not. It helps ensure ladders pass safety and quality standards. Before using a ladder, everyone should visibly check its condition. If any defects are found, the ladder must be tagged DO NOT USE.

    List the ID number of the Ladder being inspected

    List the type of ladder being inspected

      Select the material which the ladder is made of

      List the rating of the ladder being inspected

      The stiles/rails condition: Free of damage or excessive wear, any visible cracks or splitting

      • Pass
      • Flag
      • Fail

      Footing/Shoes condition: Intact and free from damage

      • Pass
      • Flag
      • Fail

      Steps/Rungs and Top Cap: Loose, damage, free from accumulation of oil, grease or other material that may create a slipping hazard

      • Pass
      • Flag
      • Fail

      Spreader bracing: Bent, damages, can they be opened and locked in place

      • Pass
      • Flag
      • Fail

      Strut bracing: Missing, bent, or damages securely fasten to step and rail

      • Pass

      • Fail

      MFG's, warning and rating labels: Are they visible

      • Pass
      • Flag
      • Fail

      Ladder storage location: Is it the correct location and being secure to prevent falling over
