Well managed and carefully maintained workplaces have fewer fire risks. If a fire does occur in a well organised workplace it should be controlled more easily and the dangers to staff, together with the threat of business interruption, significantly reduced.

Fire Safety Checklist
Well managed and carefully maintained workplaces have fewer fire risks. If a fire does occur in a well organised workplace it should be controlled more easily and the dangers to staff, together with the threat of business interruption, significantly reduced.
Patrol is being done monthly and will be guided by at least one FSM qualified personnel.
Zones
(A) Sources of Fire (Flammable/Combustible Items)
Oily rags - Are oily rags disposed in designated metal bins with cover?
Paint cans - Are used paint cans disposed in designated metal containment bins?
Solvents - Are solvents stored in chemical cabinets with fully shut doors?
Rubbish bins 1 & 2 - Are rubbish waste cleared regularly to prevent overflow and buildup of methane gas? Are they positioned away (>20m) from smoking points?
Woodwaste - Are woodwaste bins cleared regularly to prevent overflowng? Are they positioned away (>20m) from smoking points?
Containment bins 1 & 2 - Are the designated disposal/storage bins segregated at least 6m from (B), (C) and (D) areas listed below? Are they clearly labelled?
Signage - All signage visible and clear.
(B) High-Risk naked flames / sparks areas
Smoking points - Are all the cigarette butts properly extinguished and disposed? Any sign of smoke?
Hotwork - Is there physical barrier around the hotwork areas with fire extingushers on standby?
Spray painting work - Is there adequate ventilation in and around the spray painting area?
Grinding / Cutting Machines - Are potential frictional sparks from heavy contact machine/equipment being isolated or barricaded?
Canteen Kitchen - Are all cooking and heating processes completely ceased and turned off when the canteen is closed for the day?
Lightings - Are all work lights in the area explosion-proof?
Praying Alters - No oil lamp or candle to be burned at the alters.
Signage - All signage visible and clear.
(C) Flammable Materials Storage Areas
Paint/Solvent store - No build-up of fumes in the store.
Diesel - No spillage around the storage area. No oily rags around.
LPG - All enclosures are locked. No loose cylinder lying around.
O2 (accelerator) - No loose cylinder lying around. Must be stored at least 6m away from flammable gases.
Hydrogen 1 - All enclosures are locked. No loose cylinder lying around.
Hydrogen 2 - H2 detection/cutoff and alert system is on/working.
Signage - All signage visible and clear.
(D) High-heat installation/equipment
Drying oven - Temperature sensors and overheat alert system are functioning properly.
Boiler - Temperature sensors and overheat alert system are functioning properly.
Server room - 24/7 aircon system and temperature sensors are functioning properly.
Electrical outlets - No overloading of power outlets that can cause overheating, short-circuit and sparks.
Exposed or frayed wires - No exposed or frayed cables/wires lying around that can cause sparks/short-circuits.
Signage - All signage visible and clear.
(E) Fire protection and rescue system/equipment
Hose reels - Check accessibility and functionality. Sample check: turn to release water.
Fire extinguishers at FMS areas - Check accessibiity and functionality
Fire Hydrants - Check accessibility and functionality
Fire Engine accessway box - Make sure no item sitting or blocking within the fire engine accessway red-boxes.
Fire access panels (FAP) - Make sure no item sitting or blocking 1-meter in front of FAP windows.
Emergency lights - Emergency lights are working (test battery power)
Rooftop lift generator (MO L6) - Make sure alarm is working (indication of low oil/diesel level).
Signage - All signage visible and clear.
(F) Means of Escape
Evacuation Routes - No blockage of evacuation routes and paths. Paths are marked out clearly.
Staircase - No clutter or combustible item along and underneath stairwells.
Smoke-stop doors - All smoke-stop doors at the main office block are closed at all times to stop smoke in case of fire.
Exit door lights - All exit door lights are lit 24/7.
Exit doors - All exit doors can open outward freely.
Electric door locks - Electric door locks automatically release in the event of power failure.
Signage - All signage adequate, visible and clear.
