Unlock valve and turn the hand wheel to the fully open position.
Turn the valve in the closed position direction two or three turns to determine the valve is operational.
Turn the valve to the fully open position, and finally back it off one-quarter turn to relieve and strain.
In the most indicator post valves, the rod connected to the valve with twist slightly when the fully open position and give a characteristic "spring".
After trying the valve, make sure to relock in the open position.
